Science first, always
Every decision traces back to site data. We don't lean on hunches or generic templates — each plan is built from what's actually on the ground.
Our story
ID Ecological Management was founded in 2008 out of a frustration shared by many in the industry — consultancies that produced beautiful management plans then handed them off to someone else to execute, with the quality of delivery left to chance.
We set out to close that gap. From day one we've operated two connected practices under one roof: an ecological consulting arm that scopes, surveys and plans, and an on-ground land management arm that actually gets the work done. Same team, same standards, one continuous line from survey to site.
Seventeen years on, that model is still what makes us useful to our clients. Councils, utilities, government agencies and private landholders come to us because the team writing the plan is the team delivering it — and the team delivering it knows why every decision in the plan was made.
We work across Victoria, from inner-urban waterways to remote alpine catchments. Every project gets the same thing: rigorous science, honest reporting, and people who know what a mattock does.
How we work
Every decision traces back to site data. We don't lean on hunches or generic templates — each plan is built from what's actually on the ground.
The team that scopes a project is the team that delivers it. No translating a plan written by strangers. No blame games when something changes on site.
Our reports are written to be understood — by landholders, council officers and regulators. Technical where it matters, readable everywhere else.
Revegetation is a multi-year commitment. We take on maintenance contracts because walking away after month six is the single biggest reason ecological projects fail.
If a site doesn't need the full treatment, we'll tell you. We've walked away from work more than once because the right answer was "wait a season and see".
DELWP, EPBC, local planning — we've done the paperwork so often it's muscle memory. Reports come back permit-ready, first time.
The team
A mix of university-trained ecologists, long-serving field technicians and crew leads. Most of us joined because we love the work — and we've stayed because the work has stayed interesting.
Founder / Principal Ecologist

Field Operations Manager
15+ yrs in weed ecology and rehabilitation works.
Crew Lead

Our history
2008
Two ecologists, a ute and a small roster of private-landholder clients. First projects focused on weed mapping and revegetation planning in the Dandenong Ranges.
2012
Engaged by Parks Victoria for targeted weed control on a sensitive heathland site. The start of an ongoing public-sector practice.
2015
Brought field delivery in-house rather than subcontracting. The "same team, survey to site" model becomes our signature.
2019
Engaged by Melbourne Water, Victorian Desalination Plant and major rail projects for pre-works surveys and compliance monitoring.
2023
Crossed 100 completed projects across urban, peri-urban, regional and remote Victoria. Maintenance contracts now span up to 5 years.
Today
A tight team of ecologists, field techs and crew leads. Still founder-led, still field-focused, still refusing to grow past the point where we'd lose sight of what we do.
