Project overview
Protecting biodiversity values across
400,000 hectares.
The Central Highlands Eden project focuses on the removal of high risk weeds that are threatening the highest biodiversity values in the southern Central Highlands of Victoria. Covering an area of approximately 400,000 ha, the CHE project area encompasses the Yarra Ranges and Baw Baw National Parks, Bunyip and Moondarra State Parks and all interconnecting state forest.
The aims of the
CHE project are to:
- Minimise the establishment of high risk weeds at the early stage of invasion.
- Contain the spread of localised infestations of high risk weeds.
- Reduce the spread of weeds within identified biodiversity asset areas.
Activities undertaken
during this project
- Treatment of high-treat weeds including a combination of high-volume spray rig, knapsack spray, hand removal and cut & paint.
- Mapping of new infestations recorded and treated.
- Remote area works including on site camping and walking into inaccessible area with no tracked access.
